Blantyre, June 17, mana: Award-winning Malawian artist Zonke Too Fresh, whose real name is Zaithwa Zonke Mhone, has officially released his latest single titled; 1 - 0, marking his return to the music scene after a year-long break.
Based in Bangwe Township in Blantyre, Zonke described the song as a love story layered with humor, cultural nuance, and social reflection.
“The song talks of a relationship where a man is in love with a woman who did not tell him she has a child. The man later finds out through his friends and goes to confirm with her,” he added.
The title 1 - 0 serves as a metaphor for imbalance in relationships, particularly when one partner has a child and the other doesn’t.
“It can go both ways, either a man or a woman may have a child from a previous relationship. But the main question I’m raising is: Is it wrong to be with someone who already has a child?” he added, explaining the heart of the song.
Zonke said the new release represents a new direction following a brief musical pause.
“It’s been a year since I dropped a song. That’s why I decided to take this path and this is my first song this year, but fans should expect more, including an album. 1 - 0 was produced by Maone Studio, with the beat arranged by YoBa,” he said.
The song is meant to resonate with both urban and rural audiences, incorporating a local feel while delivering a message that is widely relatable as the official music video had already generated buzz on YouTube, with fans responding enthusiastically.
“This is storytelling we can all relate to,” reacted Blessings Banda.

Zonke is best known for songs such as; School Report, Kamodzi, and Pachibale Pawo, and was awarded Best Male Upcoming Artist of the Year 2022 at the Maso Awards.
