Mchinji, February 02, Mana: Deus Gumba, MP for Mchinji South West Constituency, has launched a League in his constituency as a way of helping the youth have something to do with their time to stop them from indulging in activities that can endanger their lives.
Speaking on behalf of Deus Gumba, the constituency chairperson, Cleofas Banda said this is not a political ploy but a way of giving back to the community especially to the youths for their works in the community.
"This is something honorable has been doing for years as a way of helping the youths of the constituency keep fit and giving them something to do so they can learn and interact with one another," said Cleofas.
He further said introducing such leagues helps teams to be recognized on district level and sometimes on a national level.
In his remarks, District Sports Officer for Mchinji, Martin Panyanja stated that such leagues help shaping hidden talents in communities.
"There is a lot of hidden talent in communities and when such leagues are taking place, the youths are given a chance to showcase their talent which helps them to move forward," explained Panyanja.
Panyanja further highlighted that as a sports office, it is not possible to reach out to all communities and help the youth due to lack of resources but such leagues help in providing some of the resources and that is good development.
Charles John, a youth, at the launch appreciated Gumba for introducing the League saying this is what youths in rural areas need to keep busy and avoid other malpractices.
Deus Gumba Banda League is worthy MK10 million and it is scheduled to run until August 2025. The league is expected to benefit 102 teams across the constituency.
