Nsanje, December 5, Mana: Dr. Kondwani Santhe, Executive Director of the National Local Government Finance Committee (NLGFC), has called on councils across the country to prioritize the implementation of high-quality projects to enhance their durability and long-term impact.
Santhe was speaking on Thursday after inspecting a recently constructed Sankhulani guardian shelter and kitchen in Nsanje North Constituency.
He said his department will hold accountable all the councils that will implement sub-standard projects.
“I am excited with the quality work implemented here at Sankhulani. I am also impressed that the community played a leading role in the implementation of the projects,” he added.
Santhe, therefore, urged communities to take good care of the facility for it to have long life span.
“The participation of the community is an indication that the community really wanted the development,” he added.
Santhe, however, said government has also allocated money for the rehabilitation of health centres in some districts including Nsanje.
He also disclosed that next year hospital rehabilitation fund will go to all 28-district councils in the country.
Chairperson for Nsanje District Health Management Committee, Raphael Genti said the construction of the guardian shelter will enhance security of guardians as mostly they spent their nights in the open space.
“It was very difficult during the rainy season for guardians to cook in an open ground. The kitchen which has been constructed at the facility will address such challenges," Genti said.
Sankhulani guardian shelter, kitchen, bathrooms and VIP toilets have been constructed with funding from Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) amounting to over MK32 million.
